5 Ayurvedic Self-Care Rituals for Women's Wellbeing
By Mel, 500-hour RYT · Well With Melo
Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on women's wellbeing. Shakti, the feminine creative energy, is seen as a sacred force of nature, and it's said to live in the womb space. In yoga, this area is connected to the sacral chakra: the water element, the energy of flow, creativity and pleasure.
Stress, life experiences and emotional pain can leave us feeling disconnected from this part of ourselves. These gentle rituals are about coming home to your body with care.
1. Reflection and healing
Reconnecting with ourselves sometimes means looking back with compassion. Journaling, meditation, forgiveness practices and setting intentions with the cycles of the moon can all be part of that. For deeper healing, especially around trauma, please reach out to a therapist or healthcare professional. You don't have to do it alone.
2. Daily self-care ritual
Caring for your body with intention creates a sacred space to be with yourself. Some of my favourites: warm oil self-massage, warm baths, breathwork and gentle yoga for the hips.
3. Nourishing foods
Foods traditionally seen as strengthening and ojas-building include yogurt, ghee, almonds, dates and apricots, along with warming spices like ginger and turmeric.
4. Herbal baths and oils
Herbs can be added to a warm bath or infused into your massage oil for a calming ritual. Ayurveda also uses herbs like shatavari and ashwagandha, but always speak with your healthcare provider before taking any herbs, as they're not right for everyone.
5. Beauty from within
In Ayurveda, caring for your skin, hair and nails is a way of turning inward and nourishing yourself. My daily skincare ritual comes from Sewanti Ayurveda (code WELLWITHMELO10)*. For a little at-home ritual, try this glow mask:
- 1 tbsp mashed banana
- 1 tsp yogurt
- ½ tsp honey
- 1 tsp rice flour
- a few drops of lemon juice
Mix, apply to clean skin, leave for 20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. Patch test first if you have sensitive skin.
