Spring Yoga Poses for Each Dosha

By Mel, 500-hour RYT · Well With Melo

Spring brings blooming flowers, warmer days and fresh energy. Choosing poses for your dosha helps you feel your best as the season shifts.

Vata: ground and steady

Tree pose (Vrikshasana)

Root down through your standing foot and find your focus. Tree pose steadies Vata's airy, scattered energy.

Seated forward fold (Paschimottanasana)

Bend your knees as much as you need and fold slowly. It calms the mind and supports Vata's need for grounding.

Pitta: cool and soften

Cooling breath (Sheetali)

Sit comfortably, curl your tongue (or sip air through your teeth) and inhale slowly, then exhale through your nose. It cools Pitta's inner fire.

Supported fish pose

Lie back over a bolster or folded blanket so your chest gently opens. It releases tension and calms intensity.

Kapha: energize and lift

Sun salutations (Surya Namaskar)

Flowing sun salutations build heat and movement, a perfect counter to Kapha's heaviness.

Bridge pose (Setu Bandhasana)

Lift your hips and open your chest to awaken the body and boost energy.

A good mat and blocks make all of these more comfortable. I use B Halfmoon (code WELLWITHMELO15)*.

Listen to your body and move within your limits. If you're new to yoga or have an injury, check with your doctor or a qualified teacher first.
